5 Food & Drinks That Are Great For Your Skin

I have written a lot about skincare in the past. But, one area that I haven’t covered is all to do with the food and drink you consume, and how it can have a significant impact on your skin’s appearance. You are what you eat, as they say, so if you are struggling to improve your skin, perhaps a change in diet might help. Here are five foods that can give you that glow you have been looking for.

 

Strawberries

Not many of us need an excuse to eat more strawberries, but I’m about to give you a few anyway. Did you know that the humble strawberry contains more vitamin C per serving than oranges or grapefruit? And, of course, anyone with a diet high in vitamin C tends to have far fewer wrinkles and skin problems than those that don’t. Strawberries also do a lot to protect against free radicals and give you a lot of moisture to fight dehydration, too. In short, eat them whenever they are in season, and you should see the benefits almost immediately.

Green tea

Still drinking coffee in the morning? Why not change your habit and drink green tea instead? Plenty of studies suggest green tea or matcha powder can help reduce damage from the sun on your skin. It is also thought to give you protection against UV rays. Green tea is an anti-inflammatory, too, meaning it can help fight against the aging process. There’s no evidence that it can improve your wrinkles and skin damage, but there’s no denying it can slow down the process.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are, quite simply, awesome little fruits. They can help you fight against signs of acne, for a start, thanks to the vast amount of lycopene they contain. There is also a little amount of evidence suggesting tomatoes also have UV protection properties, too. So, if you love getting out in the sun a lot, make sure you are dining on tomatoes at least three to five times a week to give you a bit more protection.

Seafood

Again, I don’t need much of an excuse to tuck into seafood of any kind. And, neither should you, because it has so many properties that help your skin. A recent study found that people who have a diet high in seafood and fish tend to endure fewer wrinkles and skin aging. It’s because they are packed full of omega-3 fatty acids, which help to fight inflammation and stops the formation of wrinkles. Seafood is also awesome for combating acne – so stock up on your fish if you want to beat the occasional breakout!

Water

Of course, you don’t have to spend much money at all to find the best cure for most skin ailments – just drink more water! Make sure you are drinking at least eight glasses a day – maybe even more if you are working out or it’s a hot day. You can even try flavoring your water with a twist of fruit – or something like cucumber.
