Happy National Coffee Day

If you are anything like me getting out of the bed on a Tuesday morning is tough. The smell of fresh coffee makes the morning a teeny bit easier, add a cute coffee mug and I’m ready to take on the day! In honor of National Coffee Day I’m sharing my favorite coffee mugs to help make your day a little brighter. Now if only that coffeemaker could brew out wine in the morning!

I love the wintery feel of this precious cross stitch coffee mug. Perfect for fall!

Fall Is Coming!

I’m starting to see everything pumpkin pop up which means that fall is right around the corner! Here are some of the things that I’m looking forward to!

Playoff baseball

As a Red Sox fan this wasn’t always the best thing, as it often meant heartbreak, but the last few years have been pretty good and has turned into something that I look forward to in the Fall. Although the Sox won’t make it to the postseason this year, and the chances of Dino Boy’s Giants making it decrease every day, I’m still looking forward to watching the final month of baseball, having a beer and relaxing!

Pumpkin carving

This is always one of my favorite traditions. The past few years Dino Boy and I have taken a trip up to wine country, had a tasting (or two) and then go to a pumpkin patch where we get to pick our pumpkins off the vine!

We then take them home. I take out the guts (the best part) and then Dino Boy gets a little too serious about carving them. We’ve had some pretty cool ones the past few years!

While you can do a crockpot meal throughout the entire year, there’s just something magical about a crockpot meal in fall. The weather is starting to cool down and there’s nothing better than walking into the house and smelling what’s been cooking throughout the day. It’s always great to curl up and have a nice warm meal. I can’t wait to try out some of these crockpot recipes.

Leaves Changing

It’s amazing to see all the different browns, reds and oranges that come out during the fall. There’s just something special about all the trees putting on a show of color, even if it does mean we’ll have to be sweeping pounds of leaves a month later. One of these days I hope to make it back to Boston to show Dino Boy what a real fall looks like!

What do you look forward to in fall?

Thirsty Thursday: Warm Vanilla Cider

6 cups fresh apple cider

2 tablespoons packed dark-brown sugar

2 whole nutmeg seeds

1 vanilla bean (split and scraped)

6 ounces (3/4 cup) bourbon, if desired

Whipped cream

Honeyed Walnuts

  1. Combine apple cider, dark-brown sugar, nutmeg seeds, and vanilla bean in a medium saucepan. Gently simmer over medium-low heat for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, and add bourbon if desired. Remove and discard solids. Divide among 6 mugs or heatproof glasses, and top each with a dollop of whipped cream and a few honeyed walnuts.
