Super Bowl Week

The mecca of sports is set to go down this Sunday, Super Bowl XLIX. It’s Noelle’s Patriots vs. the Seattle Seahawks which promises to be an awesome match up. Vegas agrees as the betting line has been going back and forth without a favorite to win.

Both teams were the top seeded teams in their respective conferences, had the best records throughout the regular season and have worked their way through the playoffs to stamp their ticket to Arizona for the Super Bowl.

Already there’s a ton of drama surrounding this Super Bowl,, from the Patriots intentionally deflating footballs in the AFC championship

to the Seahawk’s ridiculous and almost impossible comeback against the Packers in the NFC championship, The injuries to the Legion of Boom, and whether Bill Belichick will go full sleeve.
I guess he suffers from warm forearm syndrome?
This super bowl has a couple other records on the line as well. Tom Brady has the opportunity to tie Joe Montanna and Terry Bradshaw with 4 super bowl wins and he will be the first Quarterback to start 6 super bowls. Russell Wilson, on the other hand, will be the youngest quarterback to start two super bowls and has the opportunity to lead his team to back to back championships, something that hasn’t been done since 2003-2004.

The last team to repeat as back to back champions? The New England Patriots, led by Tom Brady who was the youngest quarterback to win two super bowl titles. Full circle.
At least he can’t deflate that ball

This years match up has the promise of being a nail biter with each team going back and forth for the full 60 minutes. Both teams have shown that they can come back from large deficits, having each had a game where they were down by 14 points or more. Both teams have solid offenses and strong defenses, and they have proved throughout the season and playoffs that they truly are the two best teams in the NFL.

Then again, everybody said the same thing about last year’s Super Bowl, and we ended up with this:

Boring!

Personally, I’m going for the Patriots for numerous reasons. As a 49ers fan I have a passionate hatred for the Seahawks. Being married to a Patriots fan and having a father-in-law who is just as crazy about sports as I am (see: the gnome theory) is also a huge motivating factor. But, I also believe that the Patriots are the better team and Belichick and Brady will have something up their missing sweater sleeve.

Most of all though, I just hope it’s a good game. Although I’ll be happy as long as the beer and food lasts.
